Welcome to day one of at home learning Grade Ones!
Morning Routine
Today is Monday, January 4, 2021.
We have had 67 days of Grade 1! Find a spot on the floor and patty cake count all the way up to 67. Or, using your bright pink 100 chart, point to each number as you count.
Math
Activity 1: Counting Warm - Ups
1. Watch the following videos and sing along! 2. Check in with your kiddo to see how independently they can skip count by 2's, 5's and 10's.
Activity 2: Printing the numerals 1 - 50
1. Use the yellow, " I can Write/Trace My Numbers" mat and dry erase marker to practice writing the numerals 1-50. 2. If your child would benefit from using the "tracing" side first, please have them trace first, then print independently. 3. Notice the number patterns! With each new group of 10, it is like starting at 1 and counting to 10 again!

Activity 4: Addition Mats
1. Find the yellow Addition Mat and cards - you will need to cut the cards out! 2. Shuffle the deck of number cards and place them down on the table. You can use either the ten frame side ( in my example) or the numeral side. 3. Draw two cards and place them in the rectangles at the top of the mat. 4. Use LEGO bricks, buttons, coins, cereal or any other small item to show the addition. 5. Record the equation on the recording sheet, with a pencil. 6. Clear the mat and make a new equation! Complete 12 equations. 7. Save your cards and mat for practicing subtraction tomorrow!
Please post a photo of your child's completed recording sheet on their profile on Class Dojo.

Use a collection of small items such as coins, buttons or small cereal as counters. c. Use your 100 chart and count up.
Language Arts
Activity 1: Sight Words
1. We have a new group of sight words this week! Have your child cut their sight word cards out and then have a look at each word together (bright yellow paper)
See and Say - have your child point to each word and say it together Spell Reading - have your child point to each letter and spell the word out loud. Then have them read the word again. Arm Tapping - have your child read the word. Then spell the word, while tapping their arms. Air Writing - have your child say the word. Then have your child spell the word in the air. Table Writing - have your child say the word. Then have them "write" the letters of the word with their finger on the table.
Please keep these cards in the provided envelope. You will need them each day!
Activity 2: Word Families
This week we will be reviewing all of the short vowel sounds. Today we are going to review the vowel sound short "a". Please complete the yellow word work activities that I have provided you with in your at home learning package! 1. You will complete a cut and paste activity to review the short "a" word families. 2. You will complete Jumping Jelly Beans to review short "a" words and our new sight words!
Activity 3: Journal Writing: In Winter I can...
While we were away for Winter break our season changed! On December 21 st we changed from the season of Fall to Winter! This was the "shortest" day of the year, which means we had less sunlight. Now, we will begin to have "longer" days again, which means we will have sunlight for longer. What are all of your favourite things to do in Winter?
Using a page in your journal, tell me about all of the Winter activities that you enjoy doing! Draw a picture of you doing one of those activities. If you need two journal pages for writing, please use two!
Sentence prompt ideas:
In Winter I can ______________. In Winter I like to ____________. In Winter I love to ___________. In Winter I like to make __________. In Winter I like to build __________. My favourite thing to do in Winter is ________.
Please take a picture of your child's completed journal and post it to their profile on Class Dojo. Encourage your kiddo to use their "My Sight Word" list for spelling. (find this at the bottom of this screen) Encourage them to sound out unknown words on their own. Remind them that sentences start with a capital and end with an end mark ( . ! ? )
Activity 4: Reading A-Z
1. Please visit www.kidsa-z.com and log into your child's account, using the sign in information that I provided you with prior to the Winter break. If you are having any trouble logging in or navigating this website, please let me know :)
2. Please have your child choose 1-2 books under their "assignments" to read as independently as possible. They may choose to "listen" to the book, if they need. *Encourage them to track the words with their fingers. *Encourage them to try and decode unknown words by sounding them out/stretching them out ( c-a-a-a-t), looking at the beginning sound of the word, or even using the illustrations of the book for clues!
3. Please have your child complete the comprehension "quiz" as independently as possible. They can choose to listen to the questions by clicking on the speaker button.
