Please have your child bring their yellow sight word cards to the zoom meeting as well. We will practice these together!
We are going to practice muting and unmuting our microphone today, so that we can take turns speaking and being good listeners.
Please chat with your child in advance about one thing that they did over their Winter break that they would like to share with the class. Students will then put their hands up during our zoom meeting to share.
Morning Routine
Today is Tuesday, January 5th, 2021.
We have had 68 days of Grade 1! Using your hundred chart point to each number and count up to 68.
Math
It is pink day for worksheets! BUT please save the pink tally mark worksheet that I gave you for your math work on Thursday. Oooops. Sorry, I mixed this one up :)
Activity 1: Counting Warm Ups
1. Watch the following videos and sing along! 2. Check in with your kiddo to see how independently they can skip count by 2's, 5's and 10's.
Activity 2: Popsicle stick puzzles
Skip counting by 2:
1. Have your child flip all of the popsicle sticks to the sides that have blacknumerals. 2. Using their knowledge of skip counting by 2's, have them arrange the popsicle sticks in order from 2-20. 3. If needed, they can watch the skip counting video as they arrange the puzzles. The end goal is to be able to arrange the numbers independently. Practice will make perfect! 4. Have them shuffle the popsicle sticks around and repeat arranging them in the correct order.
Skip counting by 5: 1. Have your kiddo repeat the skip counting popsicle stick game, this time using the red numerals. 2. Using their knowledge of skip counting by 5's, have them arrange the popsicle sticks in order from 5-50.
Activity 3: Subtraction Mat
You will find this subtraction mat on the backside of the yellow addition mat that you used yesterday.
1. Find the yellow Subtraction mat and cards - you will need to cut the cards out! 2. Shuffle the deck of number card sand place them face down on the table. 3. Draw two cards and place them in the rectangles a the top of the mat. 4. Use LEGO bricks, buttons, coins, cereal or any other small item to show the subtraction. 5. Student's will place the higher number in the first box and the lower number in the second box. 6. Record the equation on the recording sheet, with a pencil. 7. Clear the mat and make a new equation!

Extension Activity: Splashlearn Math Facts
1. Using your Splashlearn account, choose the icon "Math Facts" and practice subtraction facts. Begin with facts with a "Range of numbers" (0-12). a. Use your fingers to count back. b. Use a collection of small items such as coins, buttons or small cereal as counters. c. Use your 100 chart to count back.
Language Arts
Activity 1: Sight Words
1. Have your child lay all of their cards out in front of them and play a game of "I Spy"
Example: I Spy with my little eye the word "play" Have them try to locate the word independently first and with help if needed. Once they have found it have them: Spell Read - have your child point to each letter and spell the word out loud. Air Write- have your child say the word. Then have your child spell the word in the air.
Activity 2: Word Families
Today we are going to review the vowel sound short "i". Please complete the pink word work activities that I have provided you with in your at home learning package!
1. You will complete a cut and paste activity to review the short "i" word families. 2. You will complete Somethin's Fishy to review short "i" words and our new sight words!
Activity 3: Writing Journal: If I had a robot...
In your writing journal, draw a robot friend and a rocket ship for your little friend. Then, write all about your robot!
*If your child needs two of the journal pages to write/draw please encourage them to do so!
1. Use 2-D shapes (circles, rectangles, squares and triangles). 2. Use only the three primary colours to colour your robot: yellow, blue and red. 3.Use only the three secondary colours to colour your rocket: purple, green, orange 4. Tell me about your robot friend using all of the describing words you can. 5. Get creative with your writing: a. You could give your robot a name. b. You could tell me something that your robot can do. c. You could tell me about the colours and shapes that you used.
Sentence Starter ideas:
My robot can __________________. My robot is ___________________. My robot has __________________.
Please take a picture of your child's completed journal and post it to their profile on Class Dojo. Encourage your kiddo to use their "My Sight Word" list for spelling.(located at the bottom of this screen) Encourage them to sound out unknown words on their own. Remind them that sentences start with a capital and end with an end mark ( . ! ? )
Activity 4: Reading A-Z
1. Please visit www.kidsa-z.com and log into your child's account, using the sign in information that I provided you with prior to the Winter break.
2. Please have your child choose 1-2 books under their "assignments" to read as independently as possible. They may choose to "listen" to the book, if they need.
3. Please have your child complete the comprehension "quiz" as independently as possible. They can choose to listen to the questions by clicking on the speaker button.
Extension Activities:
1. Visit www.getepic.com and choose a book to read on your own or with someone at home! You will use the login information that I have posted on your student profile on Class Dojo. This login will only work during school hours 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.
2. Practice reading our list of sight words that we have been working on from the beginning of Grade 1. You could choose one or two colours/columns to review each day.
