Welcome to day three of at home learning Grade Ones!
Morning Routine
Today is Wednesday, January 6th, 2021.
We have had 69 days of Grade 1! Using your hundred chart, point to the numbers and count up to 69.
Math
Activity 1: Counting Warm Ups
1. Watch the following videos and sing along! 2. Check in with your kiddo to see how independently they can skip count by 2's, 5's and 10's. 3. Build your popsicle stick puzzles.
Activity 2: Arranging numbers to 50
1. Have your child cut out the blue number card set, which I have provided in their "at home learning" packet. 2. Have them arrange the number cards in order from least to greatest! You can make this into a game by shuffling the cards around and arranging the cards together. Shuffle the cards again and see if they can do it quicker the next time!
*** Encourage them to first look at the tens "place value" to help them decide which numbers will be larger. Then arrange them based on the ones place value. *** They can use the 100 chart to help them, if needed!
3. Once they have arranged their cards. Using a blank page in their journal, have them print the numbers in order. Encourage them to leave "finger spaces" in between each number.
4. They can also glue their number cards into their journal, from least to greatest, on the same page.
Activity 3: Addition "Flip Two" Game
You will need a deck of playing cards for this game! How to play: 1. Remove all 10s and face cards. 2. Each player will draw and flip two cards. 3. Each player will add their two cards together! 4. The player with the greatest sum (answer) wins! They will keep all of the cards from that round. 5. Continue playing until the deck is gone. 6. At the end, the player with the most cards, wins! Have Fun :)
Activity 4: Splashlearn Addition
Using your splashlearn account: www.splashlearn.com/ Complete Assignments: 1. Count on to add within 10 2. Addition within 10 3. Make Ten
Extension Activity:
1. Find a jar of coins, buttons, small cereal, like cheerios or even fruit snacks! Practice skip counting by 2 to 20, by making groups of 2!
2. If you have dimes at home, have your child use them to practice counting by 10. Each dime counts as a group of 10!
3. If you have nickels at home, have your child use them to practice counting by 5. Each nickel counts as a group of 5!
Language Arts
Activity 1: Sight Words
1. Spread your sight words out on the table in front of you! Today you will sort them by the number of letters in each word. 2. You will make a group for "2 letter" words, "3 letter" words and "4 letter" words. Sort your cards into these groups. 3. Then make 3 columns in your writing journal and print your sight words.
Please take a photo of your child's completed work and post it to their profile on class dojo.
Activity 2: Word Families
Today we are going to review the vowel sound short "o". Please complete the blue word work activities that I have provided you with in your at home learning package!
1. You will complete a cut and paste activity to review the short "o" word families. 2. You will complete Toothpaste Trail to review short "o" words and our new sight words!
Activity 3: Writing Journal: My morning to do list...
In your journal book, you will write about your "morning routine"! What are some things that you need to do when you wake up each morning?
You can start with the sentence prompts that I have included OR sentence prompts of your own, if you choose:
In the morning I ______________________________. I need to ________________. Then, I _________________. Next, I __________________. I also, __________________.
Please take a picture of your child's completed journal and post it to their profile on Class Dojo. Encourage your kiddo to use their "My Sight Word" list for spelling. Encourage them to sound out unknown words on their own. Remind them that sentences start with a capital and end with an end mark ( . ! ? )
Activity 4: Reading A-Z
