Welcome to day four of at home learning Grade Ones!
Please remember to join me for a "Zoom" meeting today at 10:00 a.m. I have sent you a link on Class Dojo. Please have your child bring their "White Board" and dry erase marker.
Morning Routine
Today is Thursday, January 7th, 2021.
We have had 70 days of Grade 1! Find a spot on the floor and "patty cake" count all the way up to 70.
Can you think of another way to count to 70?
Math
Activity 1: Counting Warm Ups
1. Watch the following videos and sing along! 2. Check in with your kiddo to see how independently they can skip count by 2's, 5's and 10's. 3. Build your popsicle stick puzzles. If you are able, post some short videos of your kiddo skip counting by 2's , 5's and 10's.
Activity 2: Tally Marks
1. Complete the pink tally mark practice sheets in your "at home learning" package - sorry I mixed our colour up for this one (instead of purple for Thursday it is pink)
Activity 3: Tally Mark Farm
Using a blank page in your journal:
1. Draw two chickens. Build a tally mark fence for them that has 20 pickets. Remember to make your fence in groups of five. Each tally mark is like a picket for your fence.
2.Draw one cow. Build a tally mark fence for it that has 10 pickets.
3.Draw three pigs. Build a tally mark fence for them that has 25 pickets.
4. Draw one sheep. Build a tally mark fence for it that has 15 pickets.
5. If you wish, continue building a bigger farm. You could add animals such as horses, rabbits and llamas. Build them a tally mark fence as well! You could add a barn or any other items you wish.
6. Colour your "farm" and make it a neat place to be! Please take a photo of your child's "barnyard" and post it to their profile on Class Doj
Activity 4: Addition "Double It!"
This is the purple game board that you can find in your "at home learning" package! You will need one coin to play this game. Any coin will do! Please have your child record their equations on the recording sheet.
Language Arts
Activity 1: Sight Words
Alphabetical Order 1.Use the alphabet strip below! 2. Look at the first letter of each of your words and put your sight word cards in "alphabetical" order. 3. This means that we will start with the word "and" because it starts with "a" and "a" comes near the beginning of the alphabet. 4. Our last word will be "yes" because it starts with "y" and "y" comes near the end of the alphabet! 5. How will you arrange the other words in between? 6. Look at the beginning letter of each word and use your alphabet chart to help you decide :)
Please take a photo of your child's sorted cards and post it to their profile on Class Dojo!
Activity 2: Word Families
Today we are going to review the vowel sound short "e".
Please complete the purple word work activities that I have provided you with in your at home learning package!
1. You will complete a cut and paste activity to review the short "e" word families. 2. You will complete Make a Wish to review short "e" words and our new sight words!
Activity 3: Writing Journal: If I had a farm...
Imagine that you lived on a farm! What would you have on your farm? What types of animals would you see? What types of buildings would you have? What activities would you do? Could you describe the things on your farm using colour words? Size words (big, little, tall, small)? How many of each animal would you have?
In your journal tell me all about your imaginary farm! Use more than one page if you need!
Please have your child write complete sentences on their own. They can begin with my sentence prompt ideas, but please have them write the sentence prompt themselves.
This is my farm. My farm has _________________________. I have __________.
Please take a photo of your child's completed journal and post it to their profile on Class Dojo. Encourage your kiddo to use their "My Sight Word" list for spelling. ( at the very bottom of this screen) Encourage them to sound out unknown words on their own. Remind them that sentences start with a capital and end with an end mark ( . ! ? )
Activity 4: Reading A-Z
1. Please visit www.kidsa-z.com and log into your child's account, using the sign in information that I provided you with prior to the Winter break.
2. Please have your child choose 1-2 books under their "assignments" to read as independently as possible. They may choose to "listen" to the book, if they need.
3. Please have your child complete the comprehension "quiz" as independently as possible. They can choose to listen to the questions by clicking on the speaker button.
Extension Activities:
1. Visit www.getepic.com and choose a book to read on your own or with someone at home! You will use the login information that I have posted on your student profile on Class Dojo. This login will only work during school hours 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.
2. Practice reading our list of sight words that we have been working on from the beginning of Grade 1. You could choose one or two colours/columns to review each day.
